1963 AC Cobra '13COB'

This is the first historic race car I was given the opportunity to detail thanks to A.J. Barnard Engineering, who have been responsible for preparing and maintaining the car.

13COB's chassis originally belonged to the AC Cobra registered as '39 PH' which finished seventh place and first in class at the 1963 Le Mans 24 hours race. After Frank Gardner crashed in the Nűrburgring 1000 kilometers race in 1964, the chassis was replaced with the original being restored and kept as a spare. Prior to the crash it had finished second at the Goodwood Easter Meeting's Sussex Trophy, twice taken victory in the Aintree 200 and finished third in the Silverstone International Trophy. The car had great success racing in the 70's and 80's when owned by Martin Colvill of the 'Bell & Colvill' Lotus dealership, all the while unwittingly sporting the original chassis of 39 PH.

In 2005, current owner Malcolm Young bought 13COB and has since raced it at Goodwood Reviva in the RAC TT celebration, Goodwood Members Meetings and also had the car displayed at the Royal Automobile Club Rotunda in Pall Mall.

As well as paint correction, 13COB's engine bay was spotlessly cleaned ready for the new engine to be fitted. The suspension, brakes, hubs, arches and both sets of wheels were also cleaned with the tyres being dressed at the client’s request. It received an interior detail along with some other finishing touches, including removal of the roof so I could scotch the aluminium panels inside to match the finish throughout the rest of the car. Also whilst there was access to the rear deck it was machine polished and waxed.
